How Long Does Flower Preservation Take? Everything You Need to Know

It is probably the most common question we get at Bloomsake: How long does flower preservation take? We completely understand why — you just had your wedding, you want to see your beautiful keepsake, and waiting is hard. Here is a complete, honest answer.

The Short Answer

At Bloomsake, flower preservation takes 6 to 12 months from the time we receive your flowers. During busy seasons — especially spring and fall wedding season — it can be toward the longer end of that range.

We know that sounds like a long time. Keep reading and we promise it will make sense.

Why Does It Take So Long?

Flower preservation is not a quick process — and the companies that rush it produce inferior results. Here is what actually happens to your flowers between the day we receive them and the day your finished piece ships:

Step 1: Intake and Assessment

When your flowers arrive at our studio, we carefully open the package, inspect every bloom, and photograph them. We document the condition of your flowers and note anything that needs special attention.

Step 2: Drying and Pressing

This is where the patience comes in. Properly drying and pressing flowers takes 4 to 8 weeks at minimum. We press each bloom individually under controlled pressure, rotating and checking regularly. Rushing this step causes mold, color loss, and blooms that crumble instead of holding their shape.

For resin pieces, the flowers must be completely dry before we can cast them in resin — any residual moisture causes the resin to go cloudy or yellow.

Step 3: Arrangement and Design

Once your flowers are fully dried and pressed, we begin designing your piece. For a pressed frame, this means hand-arranging dozens of individual blooms and leaves until the composition looks exactly right. For resin, it means carefully placing each flower in the mold. This takes hours per piece.

Step 4: Framing, Casting, and Finishing

Resin pieces go through multiple pours, curing periods, and finishing steps. Pressed frames are assembled, sealed, and framed. Every piece is inspected before it ships.

Step 5: Quality Check and Shipping

Before anything leaves our studio, we photograph it and inspect it thoroughly. Your piece is then carefully packed and shipped to you with tracking.

What About the Wait List?

Beyond the production process itself, we also have a wait list — because we handcraft every piece ourselves, we can only take on a certain number of orders at a time. The 6–12 month timeline includes the time your flowers spend waiting in our queue before production begins.

This is actually a good sign. If a preservation company promises your piece in 4–6 weeks, ask how — because done properly, it is simply not possible to dry, press, arrange, and finish a quality piece that fast.

When Should You Send Your Flowers?

Send your flowers as soon as possible after your wedding — ideally within 3 to 5 days. Do not wait until you have figured out which piece you want. You can place your order before or after sending your flowers, but the flowers themselves need to get to us while they are still fresh.

How Will I Know the Status of My Order?

We will email you when your flowers arrive at our studio so you know they made it safely. When your piece is complete and ships, you will receive a tracking number. We also post updates on our Instagram — many brides follow along there.
