Why Does Flower Preservation Take So Long?
Behind the Craft
Why Does Flower Preservation Take So Long?
Our current turnaround time is 6–12 months from the date we receive your flowers. We know that’s a long time to wait for something so meaningful — here’s why it takes as long as it does.
Every piece is made entirely by hand
Flower preservation isn’t a machine process. Every bloom is individually pressed, dried, and arranged by hand. Each pressed frame is a one-of-a-kind composition built around your specific flowers — which means no two pieces are alike and no step can be rushed. Even our resin keepsakes, like trays and jewelry, are hand-poured and hand-finished one at a time.
Pressing takes time — a lot of it
After we receive your flowers, they go through a pressing and drying phase that can take several weeks on its own. Flowers need time to fully release their moisture before they’re stable enough to work with. Rushing this step leads to mold, warping, or color loss — none of which we’re willing to risk on your keepsake.
We’re a small, dedicated studio
Bloomsake is a small studio — not a factory. Each order receives focused, individual attention. We work through orders in the sequence they arrive, which means your piece is in a carefully managed queue with other clients who are also waiting for something special. This is what allows us to maintain the quality and craftsmanship every piece deserves.
You’ll approve your design before we finish
For most pieces, we send up to 2 complimentary design previews before finalizing your keepsake. This back-and-forth takes time, but it’s one of the things our clients love most — you get to see exactly what your piece will look like before it’s complete. The wait is worth it
We’re creating something that’s meant to last decades. The care, attention, and time we put into every piece is what makes it more than a product — it’s an heirloom. Clients tell us every day that the moment they open their box, the wait completely disappears.
Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the preservation process take?
Our current turnaround time is 6–12 months. Each piece is handcrafted with care, so we take the time needed to make sure your keepsake is everything you envisioned.
Can I choose the design or layout?
Yes! All main pieces include 2 complimentary design previews so you can approve the look before it’s finalized. Please note that smaller items such as jewelry and ornaments do not include a design preview.
Do you accept flowers from all occasions?
Absolutely! We preserve flowers from weddings, anniversaries, funerals, proms, graduations, and any other occasion that holds special meaning to you.
Who is responsible for shipping flowers to your studio?
Shipping to our Houston, TX studio is the customer’s responsibility. We offer a discounted shipping label available for purchase on our website.
How soon should I send my bouquet?
The sooner, the better! We recommend sending your flowers within 3–5 days of your event. Fresh flowers preserve best, so keep them cool and hydrated until you’re ready to ship. If it’s been longer than a week, reach out — we’ll let you know what’s possible.
Can wilted flowers be preserved?
It depends on the extent of wilting. Flowers that are slightly wilted can often still be preserved beautifully. Flowers that are severely dried out, moldy, or falling apart may not yield the best results. When in doubt, send them our way and we’ll do our best.
How much does preservation cost?
Our preservation pieces vary in price depending on the style and size you choose. Browse all options and pricing at our keepsakes collection.
What flowers preserve best?
Flowers with sturdy, compact petals tend to preserve best — think roses, delphiniums, ranunculus, and hydrangeas. Delicate blooms can be trickier, but our team works with all flower types and will do everything we can to preserve what makes your bouquet special.
Do flowers keep their color?
Preserved flowers naturally shift in color slightly during the preservation process — they typically deepen or take on a more antique, romantic tone. Most customers love the result! We want you to have accurate expectations going in so you can fall in love with your finished piece.
How long do preserved flowers last?
With proper care, your preserved floral keepsake can last for many years — even decades. We recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from high humidity. It’s also normal for pressed flower colors to shift slightly over the years as part of the natural aging process. For resin pieces, some yellowing can occur over time — we use a high-quality resin formulated to minimize yellowing as much as possible.
What is the difference between resin and pressed flower preservation?
Pressed flower preservation flattens your blooms and arranges them into beautiful artwork — framed pieces you can hang and display in your home. Resin preservation encases your flowers in a clear acrylic to create functional keepsakes like trays, coasters, and jewelry. Both are stunning — it comes down to whether you want wall art or something you can use every day. Learn more about the difference here.
