Memorial Flower Preservation: Honoring a Loved One Through Their Flowers
Share
Flowers have always been part of how we grieve and how we celebrate the people we love. Funeral arrangements, sympathy bouquets, flowers from a memorial service — they are chosen with care and they carry meaning. When the service is over and the flowers begin to fade, memorial flower preservation gives you a way to hold onto them forever.
At Bloomsake, we work with families who want to preserve funeral flowers, sympathy arrangements, flowers from a graveside service, or blooms gifted during a difficult time. It is one of the most meaningful things we do.
What Are Memorial Flowers?
Memorial flowers can include:
- Flowers from a funeral or celebration of life service
- Sympathy bouquets given to a grieving family
- A loved one's favorite flowers from their garden
- Flowers from a memorial anniversary or remembrance gathering
- Flowers placed at a grave or memorial
Any flowers that carry meaning can be preserved. They do not need to be a formal arrangement — even a few stems from someone's garden can become a beautiful, lasting piece.
Why Preserve Memorial Flowers?
Grief is complicated, and so is how we hold onto the people we lose. For many families, preserving memorial flowers is a way to create something tangible from an intangible loss — a physical piece they can see every day that connects them to someone they love.
We have preserved flowers for families who lost a parent, a spouse, a child, a grandparent. We have preserved flowers from veterans' funerals, from children's memorial services, from celebrations of long and beautiful lives. Every piece we make carries that weight, and we handle every memorial order with the same care and reverence the occasion deserves.
What Keepsake Options Work Best for Memorial Flowers?
Pressed Flower Frames
A pressed flower frame creates a piece of art from your blooms — something you can hang in your home as a lasting tribute. Many families choose to display it alongside a photo of their loved one. Our frames come in a range of styles and sizes to fit any home.
Resin Keepsakes
Resin pieces — blocks, trays, coasters — encase your flowers in a clear, durable sculpture. These work beautifully for memorial flowers that may have more unusual shapes or that you want to display on a shelf or bookcase rather than a wall.
Shadow Boxes
A shadow box allows you to display flowers alongside other meaningful items — a photo, a card, a piece of ribbon from the arrangement, a small keepsake. For memorial pieces, shadow boxes often become deeply personal tributes.
Jewelry
Resin jewelry made from memorial flowers is something many families find deeply comforting — wearing a physical piece of someone you love, always with you. We can craft earrings, cuffs, and keychains from individual blooms.
How Quickly Do I Need to Act?
As with any flower preservation, time matters. Flowers begin to deteriorate within days of being cut. We understand that in the midst of grief, packing and shipping flowers is not your first priority — but the sooner you can get them to us, the better the result.
If you know you want to preserve memorial flowers but cannot ship immediately, keep them in water in a cool room, change the water daily, and ship as soon as you are able — ideally within a week of the service. If the flowers have already started to dry naturally, send them anyway — we will do our best with what we receive and will always communicate honestly about what is possible.
Ordering for Someone Else
Memorial preservation is also a meaningful gift for a grieving family. If you want to give a family the gift of preserving their loved one's flowers, a Bloomsake gift card allows them to choose the keepsake that feels right for them, on their own timeline.
