How to Preserve Your Wedding Bouquet: A Complete Guide

Your wedding bouquet is one of the most meaningful things you'll hold on your wedding day. You spent months choosing the perfect flowers, the right colors, the exact style — and then it's over in a few hours. Wedding bouquet preservation lets you keep those flowers forever, transformed into a beautiful piece you'll display in your home for decades.

This guide covers everything you need to know about preserving your wedding bouquet — the different methods available, how to prepare your flowers, what to expect, and how to choose the right preservation company.

Why Preserve Your Wedding Bouquet?

Your bouquet is more than just flowers. It's a piece of your wedding day — the flowers you carried down the aisle, that your photographer captured in hundreds of photos, that sat on your table during dinner. Preserving it means you never have to let that go.

Preserved bouquets become heirlooms. Many of our Bloomsake brides display their pieces on their anniversary, show them to their children, or even pass them down. A professionally preserved bouquet holds its shape, color (to a natural degree), and meaning for a lifetime.

Wedding Bouquet Preservation Methods

1. Pressed Flower Frames

Pressed flower preservation flattens and dries individual blooms, then arranges them in a frame under glass. The result is a stunning piece of floral art that looks like a painting. This method works beautifully for bouquets with lots of different flower types and colors — roses, ranunculus, eucalyptus, ferns, and more all press beautifully.

At Bloomsake, our pressed flower frames are handcrafted in a variety of frame styles — gold, walnut, black, silver, champagne, and white — so the final piece matches your home perfectly.

2. Resin Keepsakes

Resin preservation encases your flowers in a clear, glass-like resin block or sculpture. The flowers are suspended inside and visible from all angles. Resin pieces are three-dimensional and tactile — you can actually hold them. Popular shapes include hexagon blocks, heart blocks, shadow boxes, and decorative trays.

3. Shadow Boxes

A shadow box displays your dried flowers in a deep frame, often alongside other wedding mementos like your invitation, vow card, or jewelry. This is a great option if you want to tell more of your wedding story in one piece.

How to Prepare Your Flowers for Preservation

The single most important thing you can do is not wait. Fresh flowers begin to wilt and lose color within days. Ideally, you should send your flowers for preservation within 3–5 days of your wedding. If you are not shipping immediately, keep them in water in a cool room, away from direct sunlight.

When packing your bouquet to ship:

  • Remove excess water by letting the stems sit out of water for 1 hour before packing
  • Wrap the bouquet loosely in tissue or paper — not plastic, which traps moisture and causes mold
  • Use a sturdy box with padding around the flowers
  • Ship overnight or 2-day if possible — the faster the better
  • Include a note with your name and order number

We have a detailed shipping guide with exact packing instructions, and we also offer discounted overnight shipping labels.

How Long Does Flower Preservation Take?

Professional flower preservation is a slow, careful process. At Bloomsake, production takes 6–12 months from when we receive your flowers. This is because each piece is made entirely by hand — the pressing, drying, arranging, framing, and finishing are all done one bloom at a time.

We know that feels like a long wait, but the result is worth it. Rushed preservation leads to poor color retention, mold, and pieces that will not last. Proper preservation done slowly produces pieces that last a lifetime. Most brides tell us their finished piece was absolutely worth the wait.

What to Look for in a Flower Preservation Company

  • Portfolio of real work — Ask to see photos of completed pieces, not just mockups
  • Clear process and timeline — A good company is upfront about how long it takes
  • Handcrafted, not mass-produced — Some services use machine pressing; handcrafted pieces are more beautiful and more personal
  • Communication — You should hear from them when your flowers arrive and when your piece ships
  • Reviews — Look for consistent 5-star reviews from real brides
